What is a peculiarity in wood ?

The concept of peculiarities in wood is complex to define. Indeed, wood is a natural and unique material (no two sheets of veneer are identical, even if they come from the same batch of wood), the singularities that compose it may, depending on the person or point of view, appear to be a ‘flaw’ or a ‘characteristic of the wood’ (knots, pronounced grain, mesh, etc..).

Here are the minor imperfections that Feuille de Bois includes and that we offer in our second-grade veneer range :

• Knots
• Black veins
• Moiré
• Hairline cracks
• Mesh
• Sapwood
• Punctual holes
• Localised folds in the adhesive
• Punctual defects in the woven backing
• Punctual defects in the wood
• Reduced width (maximum shortfall 50 mm)
• Reduced length (maximum shortfall 300 mm)

These minor defects allow most of the sheet to be used, but require small or medium-sized surfaces to be covered (maximum length without defects : 1 m).
